Privacy
Plain version: we don’t want your data on US infrastructure, we don’t use Google Analytics, Stripe, or Google Fonts, and where we host things ourselves the providers are in the EU. If we ever process audio for you (hosted tier), the audio stays on Austrian servers (Anexia, Klagenfurt & Wien), and you can leave with your full transcripts at any time.
This privacy notice covers the marketing site at sotranscribe.com. The hosted SoTranscribe service is not yet live; when it launches, a service-specific notice will be linked here. The self-host version processes audio entirely on your machine and does not send anything to us.
The page is served by GitHub Pages (V1). Standard web server logs may be retained by the host. We do not query or aggregate them.
None at the moment. If we add analytics, we’ll use Plausible on an EU instance — cookieless, GDPR-native, no personal data collected, no IP storage. We’ll update this notice before any tracker goes live.
If you click “Join the beta waitlist”, the link opens your mail client with a pre-filled message to connect@sotranscribe.com. Email content is processed via the SoTranscribe mail infrastructure (Austrian provider, EU jurisdiction). We use the email address only to contact you about the waitlist.
Inter is loaded via Bunny Fonts (Slovenia, EU) — a GDPR-compliant Google Fonts mirror. No Google Fonts. No tracking by font fetch.

The US CLOUD Act (2018) lets US authorities compel US-jurisdiction providers to disclose stored data, even when the data is held on EU soil. Audio of meetings is among the most sensitive content a person creates — we don’t want that exposure on our chain, and we suspect you don’t either. Hence Mollie (NL) instead of Stripe, Bunny Fonts (SI) instead of Google Fonts, and a long-term commitment to migrate everything off US infrastructure.
We host transcription infrastructure in Austria only. Austria is outside the U.S. CLOUD Act, EU and GDPR-aligned, and its surveillance law (§ 134 / 135a StPO) requires an individual court order before any provider can be compelled to release content data. The Austrian Verfassungsgerichtshof struck down general data retention as unconstitutional in 2014.
We previously offered Swiss colocation as a second option. We dropped it ahead of the pending Swiss VÜPF revision (Article 50a), which would mandate provider-side decryption, trigger 6-month IP-log retention at as few as 5,000 users, and impose government-ID identification — all by Federal Council ordinance, bypassing parliament. Proton, Switzerland’s flagship privacy provider, is publicly relocating infrastructure out of Switzerland into the EU. We took the same signal.

Self-host: nothing leaves your machine. Hosted (when live): we process the minimum needed to transcribe. Your audio gets transcribed and stored on your behalf; we don’t train models on it, we don’t share it, we don’t analyse it for marketing. Crown-jewel data deserves the strongest available promise.
This notice is updated when stack pieces change — especially when the hosted tier launches and when V2 migrates the static site off GitHub Pages. Last updated: 2026-04-30.
